What We Do: Buff N Coat

Once your floor has been finished, it is important to take care of the hardwood so you minimize the need for future refinishing. The way to keep your hardwood floor looking new is to apply a new coat of polyurethane every 4-7 years, depending on the amount of traffic your floor experiences. If you have small children and pets, this process may need to be done more frequently. You will usually know when it is approaching time for a buff and coat. You may have excessive scratches around your kitchen table or under bar stools.

A buff-n-coat is noninvasive and much less expensive than refinishing. We come by in the morning, buff up (scratch) the current finish and apply a new coat of polyurethane across the floor. You are back on the floor within six hours in stocking feet. Furniture can go back the next day. Although it is necessary to remove all furniture from the hardwood area, we do not need to remove the base shoe, appliances or toilets.

Important Note: Remember, DO NOT use cleaning products with oil in them. If you do, a buff-n-coat will not work. Within a few months, the finish will begin peeling away. We remind people they are cleaning polyurethane, not polishing wood. The polish only makes the floor slippery.
